Very engaging, indeed. “Cool” as cynicism is, it’s delicious to see it thoroughly debunked.

There's a fine line between reading a book and wallowing in it. I'm perilously close to the latter.

Every bit as good as Garrick Jones previous book - in some ways better - I'm delighted in a way I haven't been since The Charioteer... and that's a long way back.

This is fierce! Marvelous in so many ways, but relentless, too. Half of this book weighs more than the last dozen I've read combined.

Fantastic as it may seem, I'm finding a lot that rings true in this book. I didn't expect to find it as compelling as I do.

I'm enjoying the understated way Mr Wiltshire works with dialogue. I'm realising how important hearing the play of characters' voices is to the the pleasure I take in books.

"'I'm definitely up for anything that might help Joel,' Teresa offers. 'But demonic possession - I don't think we have that in Canada. At least not in Ontario, I don't think. Anyway, I think it's really, really unlikely that Joel will consent to an exorcism. And what sort of demon presents itself as slow-moving and dreamy and sentimental?'"
