A Study in Scarlet-Mr. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson meet and become roommates. Dr. Watson has much to learn and Mr. Holmes agrees to assist the local police when a body is found.

First section: Mr. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson become roommates. How Mr. Holmes make his deductions is hinted at and Dr. Watson learns much as the first case is solved.

This book is to be used for daily study of the Bible, in-other-words, reading the Bible in a year. Each chapter contains thoughts from the author and a serious of follow-up questions.
We are using this in a Bible Study class and discussion sometimes is so in depth that occasionally we only manage to finish one of the scriptures in the allotted time of our class.

It’s a whimsical Murder-Mystery.

Morweena found Alex Truescott’s body on the beach and now everyone in Seal Bay is a suspect. People were not generally friends with Alex who was trying to buy the entire town.
Morweena has taken on the task of solving the murder because the town doesn’t have faith that DI Tremayne will be able to.

Morweena discovered the body of Alex Truscott and now she is attempting to solve the murder. There are few people in Seal Bay who liked Alex and there is a large number of residents who don’t think DI Tremayne can solve the case.

I’m enjoying this read. Arrowood, referred to as Guvnor, is often compared with Sherlock Holmes. He disputes any similarities stating he uses psychology where as Sherlock must have hard evidence like footprints and fingerprints.

When reading a biography of someone like Eleanor Roosevelt,the wife of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, FDR, it’s fair to say the time period in which they lived the role of women in our history was often overlooked. Needless to say there is a lot to be learned and the author David Michealis has shared aspects of Eleanor’s public life, and especially her private life with its many secrets.

This book has provided me with much information about Eleanor’s early life. Being born into a wealthy prominent family did not provide a happy or loving home and even she knew little of the dark secrets of her family.

This is a autobiography of Booker T Washington and the history of Tuskegee University as told by Mr. Washington.
It also includes Mr. Washington’s personal experience and life as first a slave, then a freeman and his his life during the reconstruction period.
He speaks of the good relations between whites and people of color during that time.

Will Henry Lee: The time is 1919 and Will Henry Lee has made the decision to sell the farm to the bank instead of taking out an adding to the already large lien against it. When he speaks to the banker Hugh Holmes he asks to be considered for the the job of Sherif.

The book is 2 separate stories.

All She Can Be
When Rita Bellamy became a successful author her husband Brett couldn’t handle it and they divorced. Brett moves on and marries a woman only a few years older than his oldest daughter. For two years Rita questions what she could have done differently to save her marriage.

Free Spirit

Pages 1-56 did not impress me. There was a lot of drivel about the 5 Dunbar boys and something or someone referred to as “the Murderer.”

Thankfully I stuck with it and the family background is explained in Part two.

Have finished the unit n the English immigrants and the unit on the Irish. When people emigrate during the same time period it is often for the same reason example, war/revolution; poor economy/lack of jobs; family members in America invite them or send them money to come.

This is a book of interviews. The first section is interviews with people who worked on Ellis Island. The author also met with people, most in their 80s and 90s, who were among the first immigrants who came through Ellis Island. Each unit concentrates on a specific region the first two sections are Northern and Southern Italy.
