I am really regretting picking this up. It is so gross and depressing

The library wanted this back and I gave it bc it requires more focus than I have right now. Let's return to it in the winter

Returned to library on p158 but we will continue

I am struggling to not hate this. It's about an important, neglected part of history but manages to instead spend 80 pages on repetitive descriptions of snow. I struggled to like any Korean literature the whole 9 years I was there, though, so I suppose it's a me problem

I'm not done with this yet but want to write down my thoughts before I forget them. The premise seemed interesting but has fallen flat on every single thing I hoped for from it. I wanted medical stories, a sense of history, connections to Malaysia. Instead this book lacks detail on anything other than the narrator's inner world... and unfortunately that's all telling rather than showing. Overall: Unconvincing.

I almost DNFed this because it feels a little overwritten. But pushed through and am enjoying it now

The writing is atrocious on a sentence level. But I want to find out what happens so I'm gonna finish it anyway

This is boring. I am almost never bored by any book. And yet.

It is interesting reading this at the same time as Kerouac's On The Road because they both so far seem to be semi-autobiographical collections of vignettes about douchetastic trashmen. And yet both were critically lauded for their... casual prose style? or something.

This would normally not be my cup of tea, but the author is the good friend of a good friend, so I am curious.

Is the writing bad or am I just grumpy? This reads like YA.

Reading this because I don't like enjoying life anymore and would rather Statisticc

This is perhaps the worst-executed good concept I have ever read.

Exactly as all the other reviewers said... this is neither polished nor original, but still SO good. It's also helping me realize what was missing in my first flawed try at a novel (i.e. a decent story, haha)
