I was TOTALLY fine with Shader discounting Jennifer because she wasn’t military. it was interesting and still gives the chance for the conflict to get resolved with preconceptions being challenged. BUT then Shader went on an extended inner monologue about how he only respected women who “knew their place” in military support roles! unnecessary sexism! bad writing!!!

Just finished the first interaction between hope and carver after Operation Liberty. Terrible transition, terrible interaction, made me put the book down.
“you talk about the needs of the many. that sounds like something a communist would say. that’s not who we are.” pg127
one of the single stupidest lines i’ve read this year, and the argument the character was trying to make landed like a wet fart.
