Re-reading in anticipation of the movie's release next weekend!

11 pages in and we've already had third person past tense, first person present tense, and first person past tense - all different narrators. 😭 The table of contents tells me we will never again hear from Narrator #1 - so why name him at all??

This book needed a good line edit before publishing. Sanaa has just mentioned asking her neighbor about something - that she already spoke to the neighbor about like 100 pages ago. Everything is so very repetitive and very monotonous. (See what I did there?)

I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding why so few people are making the connection to the Ferryman killings when the calling cards are so specific and unique. Wouldn't any cop with half a brain immediately make the connection and use that as a jumping off point?

The next book on my reading challenge was "one-word title," so I am re-reading this in the hope of finally reading the rest of the series!

Sarah and I quickly fall into an easy routine. When I'm not on the road, we do dinner together, either something one of us has cooked ir takeout of some kind.

Yes, um, literally every married couple has this routine. 🫪

I'm mostly kidding. I am largely enjoying the book, but sometimes it over explains itself and it's easy to make fun of. 😁

Not me reading the first line of the prologue and realizing this STILL TAKES PLACE WHEN JARON IS SIXTEEN. 😭😭😭 I wanted older characters for this so baaaaaaaad.

This book is an absolute fever dream so far.

I'm struggling to find the direction of this book. I'm reading it the way I would listen to a podcast, but it jumps around a lot and it's not always clear what's all that important. I'm this far in and wondering how we could possibly spend another 300+ pages on this...

I'm not sure this will be my cup of tea. I rolled "memoir" on my "bookworms and bookmarks" reading challenge and it a genre I'm just generally not interested in. This came up on prime reading as something I could read for free and I enjoy true crime podcasts in general and have been meaning to read Gregg Olsen for awhile. It might be too graphic for me, so I'll DNF if that feels like the case.

Do we want to take bets on how many times MC will complain about having gained ten pounds in the last - *checks notes* - SEVEN years? 😒

"Sweat pooling under swollen/full breasts" referenced twice in 4 pages lol. Trying to not get the ick from this.

I can tell by now that this will likely have sexual content I'm not interested in, so I am DNF-ing now. If someone knows something I don't, then let me know.

It's hilarious to me that the main character just finished an intensive DBT program because I, too, just finished an out patient intensive DBT program. Small world. 🤣

I'm having a hard time with the dialogue so far. It doesn't feel very natural. Sylvia's video to Tate is so very not like how a person would speak out loud. I'm hoping it gets more interesting from here.

Y'all, when I saw this at the library, I CACKLED, this is exactly the type of random collab I am here for. I have notoriously disliked most of Sparks' books, but I do love classic Shyamalan and I'm hoping this makes one awesome movie.

I'm liking Nelly a lot more so far than I did on my first read. Catherine is even more insane than I remembered lol.

A couple people I know were reading this recently, and it reminded me that I'm due for a re-read. Looking forward to comparing my adult glasses with the review I wrote when I read this for my AP English class my senior year of high school hahah.

"10 years ago" this is not how present tense narration works, plz stop 😭

Every voice sounds the same so far, quick and clinical. Nobody has any emotional reactions to anything going on, even though it's written in present tense and they are supposed to be in the middle of all the feelings.

My husband and I just finished a re-read of The Hobbit together, so we are on to re-reading this next. <3

One of my book clubs is reading Demon Copperhead later this year, so I am preparing myself now to have some context for it haha.

It's been several years since I last read this book; I gave it five stars when I read the ARC, so I'm excited to re-read it (even though I don't remember anything haha).

Also did I mention that there are asterisks for the curse words?? I'm not one to use certain language either, but... like, write the words in your book or just leave them out entirely. Reading "F*** the f*** off" as a line of dialogue is the quickest way to pull a reader straight out of the narrative.

I've been totally on board with the events of this book until now - when the main character, together with her brand new love interest, are chasing the best friend to a motel and they've decided to bring love interest's cousin's neighbor's nine-year-old along for the midnight ride for kicks and giggles. Now they're staying in a room at the motel because it's too late at night to wake up the best friend... ???????????
