Things I’ve learned from this book so far: conservatives are all confederate nazi homophobes and liberals are God’s gift to the world. Oh wait - being Christian is a backward ignorant conservative thing - must be everyone good vibes that have us all the liberals.

That being said, the book still has potential as long as both sides come to common ground.

Interesting. This book, like Faithless in Death (52) seems to be pushing a modern political agenda. Why is JD Robb doing this? Is she an activist now or is she just latching onto buzz words in an attempt to stay relevant? Regardless, the 2060 setting is seeming more and more like the 2020s.

I’m assuming there’s going to be some sort of redemption arch in this story or at least I hope so as currently there is not a single likable character in the bunch. Every character from main to side characters is so self centered or mean that there is no way for me to root for them. I’m hoping some so far unseen redeeming qualities come out soon.

This is a real puke of a book compared to the first (Fire Rose). Fire Rose was a delightful twisted fairy tale. This is an excuse to screech about feminism and decry all all religion (both Hindu and Christianity). Sure hope is picks up and takes on ANY characteristics of a fairy tale.

“I remembered an old Christian mystic notion: As above, so below.”

Interesting. I’d love to see her source here. This quote is generally attributed to Hermetic texts, tarot, or the occult. While some Christian concepts can be loosely tied to this sentiment, it does not appear to have been coined by a “Christian Mystic”

Here is precisely why I struggle with this book. I’m with the friend. We don’t cherry pick religion when things get tough. That’s the easy way out

“As [a dear friend] told me, “You don’t want to go cherry-picking a religion.” … I think you have every right to cherry-pick when it comes to moving your spirit and finding peace in God.”

I’m so fed up with her pretentious back patting. And I’m even more fed up with her claims to appreciate and understand all religions just to subtly make Christianity (especially Catholicism) the butt of her jokes.

There’s nothing more she loves to do in pt 2 than take Catholic saint’s writing out of context & twist it to suit her needs. Or as on this page, just full out make fun of Catholics. Pathetic

“My plane lands in Mumbai around 1:30 AM. It is December 30. I find my luggage, then find the taxi that will take me hours and hours out of the city”
-2 paragraphs later-
“We pull up to the front gate of the Ashram at 3:30 AM”

So by hours and hours you meant 2 hours…and that included getting luggage & finding a taxi, so…am hour of actual driving? *sigh*

Oh honey. You hit the nail on the head here…only I think you’re already there #awkward

“I had a sudden horrifying image of the woman I might become if I’m not careful: Crazy Aunt Liz. The divorcée in the muumuu with the dyed orange hair who doesn’t eat dairy but smokes menthols, who’s always just coming back from her astrology cruise or breaking up with her aroma-therapist boyfriend…”

Ok, let’s take a gander back at that introduction, shall we? (Oh yes we shall)

“One final expression of gratitude: While scattered names throughout this book have been changed for various reasons, I’ve elected to change the names of every single person I met”

So did you make up names or not? Crazy & inconsistent.

And I quote:
“Luca Spaghetti is a good friend of my buddy Patrick McDevitt, whom I know from my college days. And that is honestly his name, I swear to God, I’m not making it up. It’s too crazy.”

Oh really? You’re not making it up? Ok crazy (see next update)

I’m also going to have to go with a lot of “things that never happened for 500, Alex” as I read through this drivel. Please let it get better!

This woman has to be the most self-centered, entitled, self-congratulatory person to have ever writes a book.

Book was ok but now it’s a problem. Bastille is trying to help Alcatraz feel better by telling him that his decision (from book 5, no spoilers) isn’t actually his fault. But here’s the thing. He DID make the decision. Was it right or wrong? Hard to say. Is it understandable? I guess. But the fact remains he did make that choice & needs to come to terms with it instead of being patted on the head like a victim

Nothing like rape posing as a sex scene. Oh wait, she was simpering in ecstasy by the end, that makes it ok. Yuck. Finish or abandon. That is the question.

Hate hate hate. If it was t fur book club I don't think I would read this bagels selfish and idiotic. She discusses everything in excruciating detail, from make nurses penises to hero on addiction, but just breezes right over her abortion. Ugh! Truly awful.
