I don’t need this negativity in my life. Power-mad, corrupt, scheming royalty. This “family” is the antithesis of the word. dnf.

The edition I’m reading was published in and is the American version called “Something New”.

Cloaked in gold and vermillion, the sun was stepping into the western sea.

Because of the genre I keep thinking this is dystopian. But there really is very little so far that isn’t sincere, optimistic, and hopeful. And then I just read a dialogue on spanking which came across as very old fashioned and kind of silly.

Ouch: “A critic is some one who comes on the battlefield after the war is over and shoots the wounded.”

Much better than the last Crichton book I read.

What a contrast to the last book I finished. The front cover promises it is "relentlessly suspenseful" but I'm not getting that. So far it's like reading a lab report.

What an amazing writer Mr. Bradbury is!

So. Cyrus Smith and Henry Westmore are cousins. Wonder if they are also related to Sam Miracle.

Regarding parent's duty to the education of their children, "...provide them with an education that is rightly ordered-that is, one based on the premise that there is a God-given, unified structure to reality and that it is discoverable." This is, for me, the "nutshell" definition of classical Christian education.

3 chapters in. The kids are won over. They thought it would be too childish for them. Love, love the writing. Great story. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Halfway through...It's getting really good. Glory just got a white stripe. Olivia and I think we like this one more than the first.

This little tale just got very weird.

Like the sun at noonday, mysticism explains everything else by the blaze of its own victorious invisibility.

Poetry is sane because it floats on an infinite sea; reason seeks to cross the infinite sea, and so make it finite. The result is mental exhaustion...

I'm past the point where I usually decide to give up on a book. But since this is a classic I'll stick with it. But it's slooooow.
