CoachJim is starting Wait Till Next Year
I’m going to pause my reading about how the United States decided to go to war in Vietnam. This book by America’s favorite historian is about her childhood in Brooklyn and her love for the Brooklyn Dodgers. In 1958 the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles. I am starting this book on the opening day of the 2025 World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Go Toronto.

CoachJim is finished with We Should Have Seen It Coming: From Reagan to Trump--A Front-Row Seat to a Political Revolution
I have finished this book on the week that Trump has been indicted on 37 federal changes for mishandling classified documents. We are now watching republicans everywhere falling over themselves defending him, and threatening civil war.

Is this the party of Law and Order?

CoachJim is starting The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York
Oh My. What a tome this is. 1162 pages of dense text. I'll be back sometime this summer.

CoachJim is starting The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression
Well, I listed this book on Goodreads as currently reading and Goodreads is now recommending some absolutely atrocious books.

I'm not sure I will be able to finish this book.

CoachJim is on page 56 of 510 of Midnight in Washington: How We Almost Lost Our Democracy and Still Could
Chapter one of this book is entitled Insurrection. It is a recounting by Schiff of the events of Jan. 6 from the floor of the Senate as members of Congress voted to certify the election results. This chapter, as I read it on the anniversary of that event, along with the news that day of the callous indifference of the Republicans as me questioning whether to even continue reading this book.
But I am reading on.

CoachJim is starting The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History
On the morning of the day I started reading this book the news announced that COVID deaths in the U.S. have now matched the U.S. deaths of the 1918 Great Influenza (675,000 deaths).

I have had this book on my bookshelf since February 2020 and have been anxiously waiting to read it. I have now reached the time period in my history reading that it occurred. With this morning’s news it seems an appropriate day.

I am about half way. This is incredibly good. I'm loving this story.
Now let's see if the author can bring it home.
