Still think it could benefit from a slightly deeper study of the history of the Caliphate, particularly the 10th-12th and 14th-16th century Abbasids, but this is somewhat tangential and thoroughly enjoying it nonetheless.

Greatly appreciating the summary histories of the post-War Ottomans and the Khilafat Movement, though maybe in need of a little editing. Will have to check in on Ali's account of the Mappila Rebellion.

Always enjoy that prologue, but a bit critical of the summary of Caliphal history (give the Mamluks their rightful mention!) 10% down

An odd thing, to read your father's autobiography. It came out a quarter of my life ago but I am only catching it now. In fairness I haven't read Mum's books either. The inciting incident will be the midpoint of my life when I turn 25... eighth-life crisis: check; quarter-life crisis: check; God knows what 2038 will bring...

I love this book so much but blast if my reading isn't slow as a snail. 2 hours for 20 pages! Bear in mind the distractions of reading in the mosque front yard
