Aurora
Aurora is starting The Actual Star
Couldn't finish the book. Disappointed. Will try again. The contemporary timeline was disjointed. The young girl characters didn't resonate with reality.

Aurora is starting A Thousand Brains: A New Theory of Intelligence
Part 2 is the core of his theory. AGI. Artificial General Intelligence

I did laugh when he gave a presentation to Intel leaders in 1992 and they didn't find his prediction that the future would be small handheld computers. Of course not! They were at the top of the world making chips for desktop and large frame computers.

Very good explanation of the future of AGI, machines .... that will learn as humans do.

Aurora
Aurora is starting Over the Edge of the World: Magellan's Terrifying Circumnavigation of the Globe
With mutinies thwarted, onward. Magellan used torture to punish the ring leaders. Of course, they use tricks and coercion to convince natives of their superiority and their god on the cross. Cruelty prevailed to force conversion in one case and I was rooting for the natives with their battle.

Aurora is starting Annihilation (Alien Invasion, #4)
Lots of odd side-plots swirling around. Spoilers: Dempsey is literally a puppet of the aliens. His persona is transferred into a clone.
I'm still not buying the plot that the aliens don't understand the internet / why destroy planet? The ragtag fighters Trying to install a virus in it to allow web access globally ...why?
Still wondering if there is a compassionate alien consciousness that is sending dreams

Aurora is on page 128 of 304 of The Cleaner of Chartres
This is a complex story crafted with subtle humor and symbolic side-stories. As I read it, I feel that the author is walking us around the ancient labyrinth, with each turn we look up through the hundreds of stained glass, all pieces of lives lived. The setting of the book and lives of the characters are juxtaposed against the Chartres Cathedral, Notre-Dame. If you know history and allegory.this is A+

Aurora is starting The Humans
I almost stopped reading this book. The first 2-3 chapters are a bit juvenile. I can't understand how an alien can traverse the cosmos and arrive naked in human form. One would think that since they knew about the discovery , they would know about cultural habits. The characters of the wife and boy were interesting, I was hoping for more, but the story was predictable.
