I don't understand why this has such a low rating - I'm finding the character portraits absolutely compelling, and love the themes she keeps returning to. I haven't figured the plot of the village yet, but I reckon I will after a few reads. I can see it being a favourite.

I've lost it. The actual book, not the plot. It's a library book too, and every time I renew I feel guilty. 'kin 'ell... 🙈

Have cried. Am now intrigued by the introduction of many new characters but am impatient to get back to the ones we started with.

Beautiful tight prose so far. I have the feeling this will book make me cry before the ending.

Dark and disturbing. I have no idea if it's Proper Literature or not, but it's a damn fine read.

It's not really my kind of story (I did not like many of the characters - Marco in particular can gtf) but the visuals were beautiful. I think in a different frame of mind, or maybe with a younger eye, I would've enjoyed it a lot. By the end I felt like I'd watched too many Tim Burton films in a row but the imagery will stay with me. Also how much I dislike Marco.

It started so well... but nothing's happened for about 10 chapters now, and I'm starting to get bored of it. The prose isn't sparkling enough to hold interest without plot, or a strong theme. Hope it picks up soon!
