Dawn is on page 108 of 285 of We Were Feminists Once: From Riot Grrrl to CoverGirl, the Buying and Selling of a Political Movement
It suggests that feminism is something that either is or is not okay to consume, rather than a lens through which creators and audiences see stories, characters, and communication.

We are so schooled, he said, in the doctrine of self-acceptance that the idea of refusing to accept yourself becomes quite radical.

It seems now, when it’s all over, as though the man had come, or some strange agency had sent him, to unplug me from my safe, guaranteed existence.

Some people contend that the English language is a living, breathing organism wherein the definitions of words and rules should change to reflect their mass misuse. I contend that English is already an extraordinarily difficult language to teach............society should step up and grant the language the respect and reverence it deserves.

The refrigerator was one of those side-by-side units, which initially left me flummoxed. When you've spent the first thirty-two years of your life with the freezer on top and the fridge on the bottom, switching all of a sudden to the left/right configuration required some acclimation.

Built in 1952, it had an utterly forgettable but, I suppose, practical architecture of that era - early Canadian ugly.

Establishing juchemeans, in a nutshell, being the master of revolution and reconstruction in one's own country. This means holding fast to an independent position, rejecting dependence on others, using one's own brains, believing in one's own strength, displaying the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance.
- Kim Il-sung

An interesting quote especially as I'm also reading Stranger in their Own Land.
