Holy crap. I've read some violent stuff before but Ned getting the beat down for the length of time he did was brutal. And amazing. Loving this book not only because it's great seeing where Millers Crossing came from but also because he's a damn good writer.

Fantastic so far. I only found out very recently that this book influenced the Coen Brothers to make Millers Crossing, one of my all time favourites. You can really see how they took their cue from it but really ended up making it their own. Great read so far!

Love this book. The handful of essays written by the very people who were a part of the scene (both artists and publishers) are fantastic. A great insiders look. Other books that I've read about the time are usually a bit dull, relying on stats and timelines. The selection of art just add to the importance of this as a fantastic artifact of the comix scene.

Getting better by the chapter. The dinner conversation and underlying tension was incredible. The Duke has now been paralyzed and the traitor is known. We're getting into the meat of it now. The more I give this book time, the more it's rewarding me.

Just pulled this one off the stack and while I was researching some books, found out that this was one that influenced the Coen Brothers film Miller's Crossing which is one of my all time favourite films of theirs...it's a no brainer, this one is going to get read this month.

There have been a few chapters that have been hard going, but there have been just as many that really worked for me. I really love how we drift from character to character (sometimes within a single chapter) and get a look at their inner thoughts.

The book I have collects the first three stainless steel rat books. I'm on chapter 3 of the second book. So far, it hasn't grabbed me like the first book has. I'm still trying to get over my disappointment of how they dealt with Angela as a character at the end of the first book

kind of bouncing around through this book. I can't recommend this book enough, the photos of the original art alone is worth it, but the few essay's I've read so far have been a fantastic look into the comix world at the time by artists and publishers.
