My dog aroused an appetite for this book as well. After carefully examining its content she devoured the pages with a youthful enthousiasme, just as when my 19 year old self read it the first time. With a precision that raises some questions, she left just those pages intact that I was still to read, to finish this go with it. Is it a warning or a canine's way of sharing appreciation for this book of books...

I finished my aim to read the first 100 pages. Amazed at how Joyce is able to describe the wanderings of the mind, as if in real time. However, I have my own mind to observe all day long and don't feel the desire to have another one taking to me.

Still don't quite know what I'm reading. Joyce's command of language is worth the struggle with it.

I skipped any description, foreword and into as to approach the book quite naive and open. So far the first 24 pages are a waterfall of words and sentences that I hardly understand. Bringing to mind the three Irish I know, it kind of helps to see the story behind the words. I'll suspend judgment until 100 pages in.

Erg fijn geschreven. 'Verhalende geschiedenis' en perfect om te combineren met een bezoek aan de expositie 'de gouden eeuw' in Hermitage of iets over Rembrandt.
