Phillip is on page 5 of 273 of The Pale Criminal (Bernie Gunther, #2)
I loved the first book in this series. I’m fascinated by the in-depth look at the police force during the Nazi regime, and since I love true crime and mysteries, this one, like the one before it, should be good.

Phillip is on page 5 of 352 of Why Mermaids Sing (Sebastian St. Cyr, #3)
This is the third in a very long series of novels about the fascinating character, Sebastian St. Cyr. So far I have absolutely loved this series and the teasers the author has provided thus far. I love this time period in European history and, of course, I’m always all in for a great mystery. I hope this one delivers like the previous two.

Supposed to be a similar storyline to And Then There Were None. It’s not.

I’m over halfway through this miserable novel. I’m way too far in to stop now, but oh my goodness am I going to have some things to say about this one.

Starting slowly. Evidently a Sherlock/Watson type of detective story. Its the first in a series. I have high hopes.

Phillip is starting To Kill a Mockingbird
Haven’t read this in a very very long time, but since the SJWs are all in a snit over it and seeking to ban it all over the country, I thought I’d start assigning it in all my classes so our already-indoctrinated generation of students will be aware of the value of great literature, even if it does contain the “N” word—repulsive, yes, but contextually important to understanding the work.

Someone on goodreads recommended this to me...I don’t remember who. I don’t even know why I’m reading this thing, but it’s a good time waster while I’m on my walks. We’ll see how it goes.

Started reading this last week. Loved the film and have heard great things about the book. Again, I really don’t have time to read this so we’ll see how long it takes....

Time for another Poirot mystery, though I probably don’t have time to read for pleasure with the semester starting. Oh well...

Phillip is on page 60 of 158 of An Island Called Moreau
Started reading this the other day...not sure what I think so far. It mirrors Wells’ novel, but it’s set in the future, which I found an odd choice by the writer. We’ll see.

Plugging along...trying to grade final essays while finding time for Harry. I cannot believe how close the film is to this novel...it could serve as the screenplay for the film! Anyhow, interesting to contrast how this initial “kid’s book” changed so drastically into a serious work of literature later. The fifth book, for example, is significantly advanced in every way from the writing here...

My Christmas project is to read the first four novels. For some odd reason I read the last three, but obviously I need to start from the beginning.

Though I’m only forty pages in or so, I am really enjoying this novel...the first installment of three or four I believe. The premise is so clever...those who don’t hire Sherlock Holmes, hire Arrowood. Cracks me up...

Extremely pleased so far. Just a great story...well plotted...Crichton knew exactly what he was doing when he constructed his stories. My respect for him continues to grow.

Phillip is on page 24 of 300 of The Great Train Robbery
I initially wasn’t sure I was going to like this...I was hoping for a good fictional novel, and discovered it’s really a more historical account of a real-life famous Victorian train robbery. But...I’m enjoying this so far. I love Crichton as a writer, and he has a great way of bringing this story to life. I can see why and how they made a film of it.

Phillip is on page 45 of 248 of The Plunderers
This is, I believe, the fourth L.P. Holmes western I have read, and I have to say that after the last one....Gunman’s Greed...I am sold. Holmes was a writer. He didn’t just write the standard western. Yes, all the elements are there, but this man can write. His observations of the western landscape and of human nature are brilliant, and quite moving. I have a great deal of respect for this man.
