So far, highly dissappointed.
Of 7, I enjoyed NO story. Yeah, the art of wordcraft is amazing, but beneath the nice shiny shell lie weak, lame engines. The storylines feel naive, simplistic, old school (and simply old/aged) and lack "a punch".
Nowhere near the quality of the novels, which I still consider 5/5s.
I also expected SF and so far received about 95% fantasy.
I might DNF this:(

Hearn. 2/5. Not terrible, not great. Merrit 4/5. Lovecraftian, suprinsingly good. Machen. 3/5. Well written but terribly dragged on and vague. Good subject though.

Pendarves 3/5 well written (1800s style) but nothing special.
Hg Wells. 1/5. All 4 well written but no story behind all those crafted words. Lame.
Morris: 2/5? How could i rate it, when i can't read it, so archaic is the english used? Gave up after 2 pgs, since i had to reread every paragraph and felt like Shakespeare, with "thee" and "spake" and "ere nigh boun" whatever that might mean...
This is not going well...

So far:
The Robert Howard (Conan) stories: 4/5. Of the 5 stories, 2 were full 5s, 2 were 2s, 1 a 4. Overall, a big surprise for me how well they still hold their value, a century later.
Lovecraft: 5/5. All the 3 stories are truly his best. No surprise here, I am a lovecraftian fan.
Note: the anthology includes an average of 4-5 stories per author (Bramah has 9! I sure hope i'll enjoy his style...)

Very good: baretta, orsi, nagata, dyer.
Good: haldeman.
Ok: larson, yoon lee.
Not that great, bad, or very bad: all the rest.
So, 7 from 17. So far.

So far (6 stories read), this anthology is pretty bad. The only non-boring story was the Haldeman, which is quite old and of course I've already read it before - and it's just good, not very good. Larson's is ok-ish, though clearly not one of his best (or his mediocre), but the rest are not good at all. Borefest written by clearly non-military writers.

So far, nothing happens... :(

So far absolutely loving it. Feels like American Gods written by Stephen King (but not nice-King-good-wins-in-the-end like It, but nasty King like Pet Semetary), with a hint of Magicians. Also misterious AF.

Ok, deci e de vina traducerea. Dacă un colier e furat din "hoarda" dragonului și cineva are nevoie de o "distracție" de la gândurile negre... mi-e clar nivelul cunoașterii limbii engleze...

O fi proastă traducerea sau scriitura originală? Nu știu, dar propozițiile sună între mediocru si rău. Scenele sunt și ele cam infantile (YA) deocamdată. Mai insist, cine știe...

So far, this is fucking great, and it keeps getting better with each chapter! As others have said already, this really needs a re-release with a very different cover (that actually relates to the book content...)

E a doua oară când încerc romanul, deocamdată nici acum nu-mi place deloc. De data asta mai insist, poate își revine.

So far my ratings of the stories read goes 2/5, 1, 2, 1, 1, 1/5. So this is definitely not going well :)

Nemira, nu există în limba română "întru câtva"! L-am citit deja de 3 ori în cartea asta... deci nu e typo, e incultură. Că de typos la voi sunt învățat, din păcate.

So far I'm absolutely digging this "PTSD veterans return and become violent mobsters"! Also the constant foul language :) And the 1700s settings. Might I have found a new favourite series years after Abercrombie? We'll see...

So far, the best book I've read for many years. Best since Asoiaf and Last Kingdom. Definitely NOT what the badly thought blurb suggests (not an YA and not about adventuring, but a dark saga of murder, revenge, medieval plots and civil war). Also the most manly in years, which is funny, since the author is not a man :))

Cea mai urâtă copertă pe care am văzut-o în ultimii 40 de ani. Chiar și pt. Paladin, campionii copertelor catastrofale, e uimitor de dezastruoasă

Really hope it picks up eventually, cause so far it is well written, but somewhat simplistic and definitely increasingly boring.

Incep din start cu emotii, daca descrierea zice ca 1492 e "inceputul turbulentelor care au schimbat pentru totdeauna relatiile dintre evrei, crestini si musulmani". Pana atunci fuseseră deja un teanc de pogromuri antisemite, toate cruciadele, cateva jihaduri pe 3 continente, migratii si deportari religioase...1492 doar in Spania e relevant. Plus ca e carte Nemira, de 3-4 ani au 95% cărți proaste, in toate colecțiile.

Feels like the author took your typical Lamora style thieving fantasy world + some romance fantasy tropes and threw among them an autistic Terminator (even more puzzled by human behavior than Arnie in T2, but just as cold-deadly), with hilarious ultraviolent results. So far, I'm abso-fucking-lutely loving it.

Deocamdată sunt uimit de cât de mult NU îmi place - plictiseală maximă în descrieri infinite de pistoane cu ulei si macarale... chiar se simte ca SF comunist de anii 50. Mai insist, văd că e plină de 5 stele pe GR.

I dislike Erikson's writing but I like the Malazan universe, so this could be my salvation. Or not (so many bad reviews!). We'll see...

Aoleu! Deocamdată e jale, ceva între desene animate, porno pentru boșorogi și Umberto Eco, dar în sensul rău. O surpriză foarte neplăcută, sper să își revină...

Well, somebody definitely read Name of the Wind. Not a bad clone, though - on the contrary.
