how is this still so enthralling the fifth time around? i constantly find myself with a racing heart or a goofy grin, even though i know what's about to happen and there are literally no surprises. why can't other writers do enemies to lovers like pacat?

i'm about three pages of dull writing away from a major reading slump, so back to old favourites that won't disappoint ...

oh yikes! when the female protagonist turns into the most self-centred, despicable person in the span of three pages and there's still half a book to go ... not even the most well-done happy ending in the world could redeem my opinion on ella now, i'm afraid. YIKES!

Either Ali Hazelwood is turning into my favourite contemporary romance author or her audiobook performers are good enough to deceive me into believing it ... I'm honestly confused by how much I enjoy this!

I'm only now, weeks after reading, getting to this review and realise that nothing much about the novel has stuck with me, apart from the charatcer of Anne Meredith. Also, lots of Bridge was being played and I don't know a thing about Bridge.

the inconsistencies are driving me insane. one moment the mc wears a short black dress to the bar only to then be described as wearing jeans and a white shirt. the mum prepares enchiladas for dinner but the leftovers are suddenly lasagna. am i losing my mind or did the author honestly screw up this much? 😳

It's been a while since I've been so torn up about a book. Getting into it, I disliked it immensely. With time, I came to like it quite a bit. And then came the ending, which left me confused and dissatisfied.

Well written and with absolutely intriguing, fun characters! Yet, the plot itself just did not keep me captivated.

Apparently I'm only reading trashy novels this year because my two remaining braincells can't be bothered to work together long enough for me to concentrate on a decently written, complex book after a working day. Oh joy!

I feel very idifferent towards this book, even though it tackled some deep and disturbing themes in a very reasonable way.

This was an underwhelming first read of the new year, which I probably should have known, because I already read a novel by this duo before and throughly disliked it. But I'm looking at the silver lining: it can only get better from here on!

Weirdly captivating due to an elusive narrator who was as much a person to properly dislike as he was a person one (or at least I) can relate to.

The first 100 pages of this were interesting enough, but then I was fed-up with the incessant use of the word "bitch" and the repetitiveness of all thoughts and conversations. Too bored of this to continue one with book three.

I ... have no idea what I've just read, but I didn't enjoy it. Not because it was extremely disturbing, depraved and vulgar — I've come to expect that after reading Snuff — but because it was boring and messy and just lost me somewhere along the way.

Yes, I'm reading Wattpad fanfiction now. See how far the publishing industry has driven me ...

This is so terrible on so many levels, I'm not physically able to read a single sentence more of this rubbish. Watch me going back to reading enemies-to-lovers fanfictions right this fucking second, because I'm done with the bullshit these publishers are trying to sell me. Just done!

I mean this in the most non-offensive way possible, but I must say I was not surprised at all to learn that the author of this novel became popular on Wattpad. And that's enough said on this entire matter!

3.0 Stars.

To be fair, Weir really isn't a great writer, no matter how you might twist and turn it — there was so much missing in this novel, like proper characterisation, believable backstories, descriptions of almost anyone and anything — but I still enjoyed this immensely and rooted for Grace and Rocky and I simply had a good time!

I'm glad I've read this book, because it was wonderful and awful and even more wonderful and finally devastating. I'm infinitely gladder that I never have to read this book again, though.

Absolutely readable, but with characters to flat and bland that I found it very hard to care about anyone at all. The best glimpse of a story was certainly the implied relationship between Achilles and Patroclus, because that seemed to be the only one

Well, Carmen is an unlikeable, whiny, self-obsessed loser character, so that made the whole read harder to handle from the get go. The romance was a joke.

This hurts too much to touch with words.

The dark abysses of human behaviour laid bare. Who would have thought I'd read a decent book this year after all? Thank you for never disappointing me, Mrs Rowling. (At least when it comes to books.)
