Beautiful and heartbreaking. A story of gentrification.

I’ve read this delightful little book twice now. It’s a gem.

It’s been a while since I reread this book, so it’s time!

This one isn't for me!

So detailed, so realistic, and strangely hopeful.

"... sometimes in life we can't grasp the boundary between reality and unreality. That boundary always seems to be shifting. As if the border between countries shifts from one day to the next depending on their mood. We need to pay close attention to that movement, otherwise we won't know which side we're on." (p 206)

This is a deeply compelling account of how the Inuit lifestyle changed dramatically in just one generation. The fact that the author experienced these events in the space of my own lifetime makes the story all that more affecting. I am still reeling from the facts around the slaughter of the Inuit sled dogs: a government led horror that destroyed many a family and even entire communities. We owe these people.
