Okay, “sardonic” is overused. Every character “smirk’s sardonically” or “says sardonically” at least once. Maybe this overuse is only noticeable because I am listening to the audiobook version and the word has such a strange cadence.

I am not sure what I think. Committed to finishing this at this point.

So far I am disappointed. Leon has weakened a lot in this book. Where is the leadership and grand planning? Yeah he’s obsessed with her but at serious cost to the plot. They also need to communicate cuz most of their conflict is from not talking about things clearly

Great questing novel. Magic system makes sense. Audiobook narrator is delightful.

Found family, questing, and yearning enemies to friends (maybe lovers?). Audiobook narrator is great. I binged. 🌲🪾

I love Gargoyle! Prose is not nearly as gothic as “The Shepard King” series, which I am kinda disappointed by but the world building is more extensive.

Addicting. Great world building.

This will be the book I keep thinking about after I have finished it this summer. Much like “The Poppy Wars” Zhang does a fantastic job exploring the intersection of class, nativism, and the ultra wealthy.

The voice actor for the audiobook is delightful and brings the text to life in such a meaningful way. I’m HUNGRY from listening and it has inspired experiments in the kitchen.

Guacamole! The author has already blown me away with how they use food descriptors in unique ways to provide setting. Listening inspired me to get creative with savory fruit making dinner. FMC is annoying in a clearly antihero way. I’m weirded out but so excited to see where this goes!
