It sucks when the hero shows up and you immediately know you’re not gonna like this story. Frail and meek 19yo mfc gets called “good girl” by big, strong, older (30ish) mmc and all I can do is say “ew”…I’m not having a good time. Now if we just tweaked it to mfc being curvy and sassy and mmc being Ben Barnes I’d be happy. Nina and the darkling anyone? Only positive is she’s the destined queen so…

So faaar I don’t really caaaare. Idk why but this book isn’t really hitting for me yet. There’s just enough happening to keep me from being fully bored but I still feel kinda bored.

What is this shrink on? What are these injections and why did he allow her to OPEN A BANK ACCOUNT IN HIS NAME? Yet again, the story is giving “miss ma’am is a vampire” because people are acting cuckoo up the wazoo. I wouldn’t let most of my friends open an account in my name let alone a practical stranger!! 1/3 of the way through. The guys finally dead but it felt kind of anticlimactic, felt like she found out he was dead kind of late but maybe that’s because the authors writing is very poetic, not a bad thing just timing seems to feel odd.

Not even a quarter way through and I’m already annoyed. I really kinda sorta hate WWII stuff, I’m over it. Also, already pissed off at the whole “they won’t win the war without us white women” when it was black people on the front and Navajo code talkers that were so INCREDIBLY critical to the win and they NEVER get the credit they’re due.

Kai’s self pity is making me regret ever starting this book. I just finished the Prisoner’s Throne by holly black and I was getting annoyed with Oaks “I’m a monster” bit but now…yes Oak, you are a monster, a more believable monster that is. and Kai is pathetic. He’s actually pathetic, he seems soooo strong willed and yet he’s never defied his father’s commands to his face?

WHAT DO YOU MEAN HIS CHOCOLATE BROWN EYES!?!? I JUST updated my progress on this book and I am SO CLOSE TO PUTTING ALL THESE CHARACTERS IN A CHOKE HOLD. Except for Adena, I have a feeling I’m gonna like her story a hell of a lot better
