I feel like I've been reading five different books, and I'm not thrilled about that, but now they're finally coming together.

Why are there so many other kids to follow? Suddenly im reading It??

But really. Every time I get bored enough to stop reading, something creepy happens that draws me back in.
But then it cools back down again and I start to get bored. Hm. :-/

Super derivitive initial thoughts:
it's like if lovecraft country were Latino, and not written by a white guy.
very slow. reads like a classic stephen king novel where you get back story and perspectives from like 3 different people involved in a single scene and you're probably never even going to see them again.
I'm still reading though.
Not sure if it's because I've gone too far to quit or bc it's pretty...

Picked this up for a dollar at a used book store, after reading The Reformatory a few months back and really being pulled into the writing. I have almost zero idea what this is about but am so far enjoying the trippy creepy vibes.

Still very slow, and I wish there were far more creepy bits (cause the creepy bits are great but like... only 2 seconds long), but in effect is like a chill noir-ish ghost story.

This is going a little slow. If I didn't love horror movies and learning about obscure pop culture history tidbits I probably would have stopped by now.
The scenes are well written and I like the idea of where it's going but there's nothing particularly engaging (or horror/thriller-y) about the first part.

This book is really good, with characters that pulled me in quickly and some amazing atmospheric descriptions.
It's also heartbreaking, considering the dedication; like watching a slow disaster you keep hoping will turn out okay against all odds.

I picked this up after seeing it mentioned several times compared to the Kushiel trilogy by Jacqueline Carey (3 books I recently re-read & loved all over again). Although I understand what aspects cause those comparisons.... well, im not a fan.
I haven't stopped complaining about it since I started. I give fantasy a LOT of leeway but I was bitching about names on page one. Downhill from there.

Damn. Like the first two, I completely enjoyed re-reading this epic conclusion. Its definitely the hardest *to read* sometimes, with a bit more intensity (and descriptions) than the previous books. But there's a fantastic, horrible symmetry to the first book that I love, from the characters situations and choices they make to the way the narrative is broken up. Love it.

Re-read thoughts are basically the same for this book as for its predecessor: I still fucking loved it, even tho, like the first book it is definitely slower, more politcal, and less sex-filled than I remember. But I loved it. Great progression of the character's stories.

What a fascinating concept and writing style. Creatively obscene descriptions of food? Yes, please.

Forgot to update when I finished this! I found both Parable books to be fascinating, prophetic, and entirely absorbing.
My one main complaint was a sort of anti-climatic endings. But for the style (a fictional biography) that also makes sense.
I'm glad I read these, even when they made me cry, or want to start a cult in the woods.

God is change.

Listening to the audiobook on drives and when working, and I love it. A little mystery, a little twisty, with fantastic descriptions and a clever main character.
