Went to camp this weekend and couldn't read, got back into it and holy cow, time jump and DRAMA. This book is intense! No tears so far, though!

This book is absurd in the best way

Hey turns out this book is REALLY good. Teenage me gave it 3⭐ which is so dumb. I think it's more politics than younger me would have cared for, but adult me is here for it

Due for a re-read!

This is a bleak but funny look into rural Appalachia. I'm not that far in, but really like it! Kingsolver's writing is very good!

This is far more technical than anticipated, but I'm into the story. Kuang has a way of blending jargon with colloquialisms and jokes that I really love.

Again, the longest introduction I've ever read. But things seem to be picking up

This is SO LONG. I like it, but golly, so much detail for very little actual action. Waiting for the payoff in a few hundred pages 😮‍💨

(I knew what this was about but it's horrifying)

The past few chapters were the worst (see: graphically violent) pages I've ever read. I thought Dark Age was bad and was told this was worse but couldn't believe it. I do now.

That said, this is still SO good

The sequel was immediately available through Libby, so I went for it. And I feel exactly the same - this book is fine. I think I like Tristan as a little more unhinged, and Libby being a little more independent, so the characters are doing better.

These books are so funny, big laughs

Sometimes this is really silly, but I'm liking it overall! Fun spooky retelling.
