Really wish the author had written the story and then embellished it with pictures instead of having the pictures describe things that are essential and not explained in the text. I will not be but any other books in the series if he doesn't figure this out.

Perfect Jim Butcher. The writing is as good as I remember. I'll be sad when the story is finally over because it'll mean there is no more adventure on Alera to read by JB.

Well detailed, though the author seemed to care a great deal, really a GREAT DEAL, about men's facial hair.

John Lee is awesome. Listening to his voice is mesmerizing. I did not give the story more than an hours effort. When I found my mind kept wandering to John Lee's reading of Perdido Street Station and caring nothing about this one.

Still liking the author and the story. Some great parts in this one so far, but still too early to tell.

The writing is "dense". Not in the bad way. The author has found a way to strip every single bit of excess from the novel. Then like an origami master folded what remained into what I can only assume are extra dimensional spaces. I find that I take a bite out of the story and when I put the book down that bite unfolds and builds and becomes so complexly and richly detailed that I have been amazed over and over.
