You know what, still kinda giving P1harmony movie, just need the last 10% to give me time traveling and we'll have it 😂

Niche reference: it's giving the P1harmony movie minus the super powers. Except maybe Claire. Also maybe if she's seen the P1harmony movie she could make some better educated guesses on what's happening here.

So far this is fine but it is far, far too similar to the original book that I haven't seen a need for it yet. I just got to a plot point that I can't connect a similarity to in the first book so I am finally feeling engaged. We'll see how the second half goes

Marketed as adult fantasy and I think? The main characters are in their 30s? But so far this is reading very YA fantasy. (Which is fine in general but I picked it up specifically for adult fantasy 😅😮‍💨)
So far I like the bigger world building in this but small details will catch me off guard so...we'll see how it balances out at the end

You ever try to explain abolition to someone with facts and they think the facts are just too hard or wild to try and comprehend, so they don't? I feel like this book could be a good way to explain it to those sorts of people since it's ""fiction"" but only just barely.

Also the secondary stories, specifically of Hendrix and Simon, really making me stop and stare at a wall even more than the main storyline

Book 1's drawback for me was how much Xingyin internally monologues about morals and her feelings, and so far I'm sensing book 2's drawback is gonna be "strangers spouting exposition at Xingyin"

I definitely didn't think it would take til this point to get to knotting so hats off to you, hazelwood, for your restraint
