Dude, shut up. like you didn’t guess he was a fae. I’m supposed to believe that you’re one of the kingdoms deadliest assassins, but you weren’t smart enough to put those two things together?

These are the kind of unexpected turns a story takes that I love. This is unlike any romantasy I’ve read in its darkness, emotional toll, and the fact that I’ve been unsure, entirely, on which way the romance is going.

I wasn’t expecting that.

I’m so confused. Didn’t we just see him executing people for love and communication across the boundary, but now he, the presidents son, is being forced to marry a boundary girl assassin to PREVENT scandal????

I’m sorry. Hal steals her away to ravish her and pushes her back out there disheveled? This guys suck. He better not be endgame.

Emeline has zero self control and it’s a best unrealistic she wouldn’t have been punished and would make it this far with how little she keeps her mouth shut. She’s not exactly the brightest. I think using impulsiveness and a lack of self preservation to move the plot is a little frustrating. That wouldn’t be possible in this situation /world.

That being said, still 5 stars dude.

Hoping this is part of a character arc, but Rin is kind of a selfish, terrible person.

I’m really upset with myself for starting this when I’m going to have to wait till next year for the next one 😭 it’s been so long since I’ve read a fantasy romance this good - the fact that it’s not absolutely famous is CRIMINAL.

This book is SO good. The scene on the deck 🤌🏼 I’m excited to see where Imogen goes from here. She went from accusing Theo of serving others to a fault, to noticing how selfishness has never served her. “I don’t want to be like you, scraping myself empty to serve others and calling it noble.”
“Nothing good had ever come from taking what I wanted.”

She’s trying to escape???? Come the frick on. Dude, maybe the world building hasn’t been adequate enough, but what the heck is she going to do??? Everyone knows who she is. Does she prefer death??? Dumb dumb dumb

I’m paused at the part where she’s at dinner, dropped her fork, valter has threatened to “assist” Theon in making her behave & she talked back 2X more. Like you would do this in real life. You’re obviously not going to make him rethink his worldview. the dudes going to do something horrible. Shut up.

I have such heartache for Dara, I wish things could be different. Manizeh is horrible. Ugh how I hate this!

Finally the progression of Ali and Nahri I’ve suffered through and waited for! I love Ali in this book more than I’ve loved him in the others. This book has displayed his loyalty and genius and I love his aggressiveness here. Before he showed morality and kindness but not enough capability. I love their partnership so far!

Okay so far. My criticism so far is, I don’t believe you would fight this marriage to a guy you say is all you can think about and all you want even if it was a surprise and you didn’t know about it, and it’s what your father wanted - because you were hours away from walking down the aisle to someone you despise - willingly- because it was what your father wanted.

This is a different plot than I was expecting. I’m very eager to see where this goes. Currently I’m struggling to relate this Hermione to the one I know and love. I think that’s hard to do because we’re switching POV from the books, and it’s hard to compare this broken version of her. I’m also hoping to hear her talk more in depth about her feelings. I don’t feel enough grief.

Good, only criticism is this story’s romance is so slow I kind of want to pluck my eyes out. I know it definitely fits more snugly into the fantasy genre than fantasy romance, but oh holy night why isn’t it more in here? It would make the read better.

This book just keeps getting better and better. Why did it take me so long to start??

Intriguing. Little detail in some regards. Waiting to see how her story develops.
