Finished chapter 3.

Watched the 2007 movie with Midge over the weekend and have been able to add compare and contrast to our discussions. Had good discussions on the complexity of human nature, the resulting intentions and their actions.

Just read past chapter 7 and 8 with Midge. Perfect examples of Lyra's flawed characters and the most civilized meeting the gyptians held in preparation for their journey to the North.

Still as enthralling and enjoyable as the first book. Onto book #3.

What will we do as the wisdom of our past bears down on our future? It is a story of ageless conversation, not only conversation among ourselves about what we mean and wish to do, but a conversation held with the land ... it is possible to live wisely on the land, and to live well... in behaving respectfully toward all that the land contains, it is possible to imagine a stifling ignorance falling away from us.
