As a type 1 diabetic, reading a book about the discovery of insulin hits very close to home. Without my insulin injections, I would be dead.

There are recorded symptoms of Diabetes that date back to 1550 BC transcribed on Egyptian papyrus.

Diabetes is named after a Greek word for 'sieve' because the symptomatic incessant thirst and urination made the body act as a sieve.

Before 1922 Diabetes was a death sentence.

After being dignosed as a type 1 diabetic, I bought this book. I was very lucky and had a good, long "honeymoon" period. Meaning I was fortunate to still be producing a very small amount of insulin, and that small amount of insulin was able to cover 35/45 carbs per meal. I was able to go a whole year "honeymooning". I now take a long and a fast acting insulin.

I struggle with this. There are some parts that I strongly agree with, there are some parts that I understand, but dont agree with, and then there are other parts that have nothing to do with feminism. Gaye has enough books and writing that could have held these other thoughts and ideas.
