I'm already sucked in. The idea that Sherlock Holmes would entertain a ghost story or echoes of The Wraith stories I enjoyed previously.... Black ghostly cars carrying death himself...

This is an unprecedentedly excellent collection of short essays and fact filled documentaries that are sparking a great number of solutions to my many questions on prison ministry. Youth ministry for incarcerated and released children in the juvenile criminal (in)justice system.

As usual, this author has hit it out of the park with compelling language and interesting plot lines. The discovery of the origins of him in the telogen's is a very compelling story line and I'm anxious to find out why people are willing to kill to keep that mystery a secret.

I cannot fathom the pain of a monster. But this book is doing a good job of helping me do just that. Malchai. Corsai. Humans. Which are truly monstrous and which are not.

This book has disturbed me in so many ways already. The way the characters are drawn and how they are sexual, diminished, care free, aggressively pathetic, tragic.... In other words, human. Chapter 11 and 17 in particular have me shaking.

Chris is reading Talking Pictures: Images and Messages Rescued from the Past
Reading this book reminds me of the joy that I had as a child with my own camera. When I was younger I used to have a 110. It's a cartridge type most people would not recognize today if one smacked them in the face. the solar glare. Grandmas face. It's all still there and talking to me in ways a digital pic never can. I hope you read this & remember your days of manual snaps too.

I love the story and I especially love the shenanigans that Anna is putting everyone through... But now the story has turned to another persons story top focus on and I don't like it. I hope to return to Anna soon. For now I'll be digesting other stories.

Chris is finished with The Perdition (Kindred, #2)
I am dissatisfied. I was really hoping it would be the continuation. Of the Latino version of the stores but it's the sanitized one the white publishers insisted on. I may return to this later..

I love how the story has a TARDIS quality to it and keeps me guessing. Nothing is clearly obvious and the characters are interesting, not because they are kids, but because they seem to be on a collision course.... Perhaps.

Chris is on page 262 of 290 of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness
This book couldn't be more eye opening to me. Not only does it raise my awareness to the failings of the criminal injustice system, but this book provides opinions that may provide real solutions and a path forward to solve the issues of the New Jim Crow. Solutions that seek to prevent a new caste system from rising where this one will fall.

Progress report: So my son came home with a summer reading list. I promised him I would read the book too so we could discuss it together. Nearly halfway through this boomed more than halfway through the summer I'm glad I made the promise, but disappointed I (we) waited so long to start it. I've gotta know why this child Mel is so depressed and why her life outside of her home is as dreary as her life outside of it.
