Perhaps my favorite part of this whole book. Elias really said "ACAB" with his whole chest and I love him for it.

Something very interesting about the character of Doña Consolacion. Most student guides describe her character as a cruel, vulgar woman who views herself as above other Filipinos and pretends to not understand her native language of Tagalog. But reading the book reminds you she didn't start out cruel and superior; it was an attitude her husband beat into her. (FEE-LEE-PEENS.)
