I'm about halfway through. I am enjoying the characters. They are all likeable and even, dare I say, charming, as far as monsters go. However, while I am not averse to violence as part of the story, I feel that's all this book is. Abercrombie does some engaging character building in the beginning of the story, but it would be nice to see those characters engage in something more meaningful and less bloody.

I'm trying to understand all the positive hype surrounding this book. People seem to love this story, but honestly, I'm just not feeling it. I'm not ready to give up on it as I'm halfway through; I'm just waiting for it to draw me in.

This may prove a challenge but I've been assured it's worth it. Someone in the online book club compared it to chewing cardboard. LOL!

To me, it's more important to actually read and take away something from a few deeply read novels than trying to read hundreds of books in a year. So I'm starting the Dickens project. I plan to read a few of Dickens's novels along with some other classics. For me, it's quality over quantity.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. It's Sherlock Holmes and the hunt for John Wilkes Booth, two things I'm fascinated with but yet this book isn't grabbing me the way I expected. I will continue reading it in the hope that it will eventually be the story I hoped it would be.

Loving this book even more the second time through, but wow, I forgot how long it is!
