Oh this just got goooood

Obv pursuing the Bengali translation like a good Bengali for the 10000th time

Is this the book that will help me come out of my reading slump and/or my reviewing slump and/or my blog hiatus??

I read the entirety of the first act of this book while getting a gigantic tattoo (took about seven hours). In hindsight, that is a story that sounds way cooler than the actual thing. Ah, well.

The book is great honestly. Loving it.

Daniel Henning, the narrator for this audiobook, is a genius. I was wondering whether an American accent would work for a story that feels British, but I was stupid and it works perfectly.

Mr. Knightley seemed to be trying not to smile; and succeeded without difficulty, upon Mrs. Elton's beginning to talk to him.

I love any situation where someone's expression is described as equivalent to Munch's painting The Scream. Nothing more pure and comical than that.

Do I like Kenneth Branagh's narration of Christie more than Dan Steven's?

damn these British men

I was a science kinda gal till the age of 15, before a crippling terror of doing poorly in school ruined the excitement that science brings. And I regret it so so much, because reading this scienc-y sci-fi as a science kinda gal would've been THAT much more fun.

Dan Steven's audiobook narration is god-tier, which means the sense of sinister is intensely gripping. Whoo-hoo.

That man can like, get it, I guess.

how does the humour . . . just work? i have been snickering non-stop.

Aight this is a good-going: The mystery within the mystery hits close to a lot of the things I enjoy about the golden-age murder mysteries, and I am flying through this!

I have curled up in a ball and squealed in delight multiple times. Not on-brand for me at all. Maybe I need to see a doctor after I am done with this book, and they can prescribe something for an incurable lack of Redford Morgan in my life.

This is a whole romp! One thing I had noticed while I had previously attempted to finish Emma, is that Austen never explicitly tells your how the characters are - she instead fleshes them out through dialogues. It's done particularly well here, IMO.

Also, lol at the shade thrown at gothic literature of her times.

This is not bad by any means, but Galladon's constant interjections in his native language is giving me a weird irk I can't pin-point : mostly because bilingual people, in my mind, don't talk like this?

Am I being picky? YES. I will parallely try Warbreaker, since it seems to have more glowing reviews.

Why am I reading a romance where I don't hate the couple and don't laugh at the cheesiness why am I enjoying this make it stop

All my side-knowledge about medieval court custom has made me a fussy old medieval equivalent of a boomer, because I'm hearing the proceedings or the court here and going OH BUT THAT IS NOT WITHIN PROTOCOLS, SIRE A PRINCESS WILL NEVER BE ESCORTED TO HER ROOM BY THE FREAKING QUEEN

I don't think I am smart enough to grapple with this, and the idea of returning to the book is not exciting me at all. DNF-ing this for now.

Court intrigue in fantasy is such an underrated plot trope/device and the one that we enjoy deeply. We are flying through this.

We are very endeared by the reference to our ears.

Another timeline that I didn't know needed making sense, just...did?

This book is full of surprises.

The timeline wasn't making sense to me, and I had an intuition, but wow was I proven right a little, and also incredibly surprised as well.

I love these characters.
