Halfway done and I’m
really not impressed. I think it’s trying to be clever in a sarcastic ha ha / ah ha kind of way. Will try more pages tonite, and see where this takes me…either to the end or full abrupt stop! 🛑

I didn’t know what to expect from
This book/author! It’s a simple, pleasant, amusing tale that could be written as somewhat of a fairy tale by one of the authors of horror when they were feeling a little soft, a little less bloody and gruesome. This is quite enthralling and hard to put down. I’ll probably finish it by tonite with full review.

Im only 45 pages in and I can’t believe how out of touch with reality the women are in this family, in this story. I’m going to continue onward, and I hate to say it, but it’s really aggravating me already.

Maddening but magically. It’s taking a very long time to read this due to how it’s written. I must admit I am lost with all these stories within a story and descriptions within a description.

The book is big and heavy and the font is teeny tiny. Don’t know if there’s some hidden meaning behind that?
I’m waiting for some big thriller part or major revelation because this is 140 pages of working the reader up. Whew! It’s hard work, this book.

I feel like I’m in echo canyon; there’s so much repetitiveness in the back&forth between characters. Exmpl: Emily has always been sick; remember when she first got sick? She came back from school looking sick. She was the one from the group who did not look well with her thin arms...Sheesh I get it already! She’s sick!! I’ll see if I can continue on or will be a DNF. I’m giving it another chance. 😑

This story began in a way of wealth and privilege. Out of the blue (to the reader, but not to the family) the absolute viciousness & violence of the husband &father. Yet on the outside they are the perfect family that has it all & has it all together. Behind closed doors,no one ever really knows what goes on except for those trapped behind it. I’m not going to be able to put this book down!

I’m supposed to be housecleaning and cannot put this book down!! So I reward myself, clean the tub, read a chapter, clean the vanity, read a chapter or maybe chapter and a half. Clean the floor, that merits a two chapter read, don’t you think? 😏Either way I’ve got to get my cleaning done and doggone it, I’ve got to finish this book today - it’s so good!! 😮

So far I’m entranced. This is a big, long book -486 pages. I’m wondering if all these pages are going to be truly vital to the story. 🤔 stay tuned!

My book cover is different from the one shown on GR. Mine has a skeleton prancing around in a Santa hat, which is why I chose to start reading it today. 11 year old Flavia de Luce, a mini sleuth, gets herself into another exciting adventure!

I’m really liking the writing and the story! This is same author of The Broken Girls.

I’ve got a very sick feeling in my stomach & the red flags are waving violently; I’ve got 350 more pages to get through and I already know that no good will come of this.

A corporate team building retreat of men and women goes awry. It’s not just one thing that went wrong; it’s a hundred things that went wrong.

So we have Jane, whom is known to be unstable, and to act irrationally without common sense. She’s lost her mother, father, and teenaged daughter to death; lost her husband to infidelity. Young girls are now going missing; does Jane have anything to do with it?

Something bad has happened. There are questions of the incident by all, but there are no answers by the non compliant teenaged victim except for her short, terse, noncommittal answers. Hmmm...

The subject matter at the start is the Tollund Man; an ordinary man, exceptionally preserved in the bogs of Denmark from over 2,000 years ago. An archaeologists’ dream find. I did an internet search of this man and that story sucked me in even further. Mind you, there’s going to be more to this than the 2,000 year old man, and I’m so excited to get reading!

I’m utterly and completely sucked in from the start. It’s going to be a long night of reading for me tonight!
