Have to return it to the library, but I'll pick it up again soon. I appreciated that the last chapter on alternative medicine approached the idea from the perspective of a person who is both desperate for relief and skeptical of treatments not backed by rigorous science.

I just finished the chapter recounting his attempt to run away to New York at age 10 with his best friend to meet their true love, Cindy Crawford.

I would totally have been friends with this kid. I'd probably be friends with him as an adult. Dream big, recognize the comedy in your failure, and keep going anyway.

The characters feel like people I know or people I could know. Every chapter is one character's voice and perspective and dialect (like Faulkner's As I Lay Dying), and they're all so joyously, heart-breakingly real. I don't know where the story will go, but I'm trusting how it gets there - my favorite kind of reading. Adding this writer to my "read anything they write" list.
