All Hail Dark Mode!!

Almost started The Brothers Karamazov, because that’s exactly what I should do when I’m in a slump. I heard this is a good place to start for Dostoevsky. Hopefully it gets my brain going.

I need to lock in

I forgot about the whole story within a story thing. I don’t recall this book hitting this hard of a lull.

Figured a reread might be good for me atm

In a little bit of a weird spot reading wise so don’t mind me as I bounce around between a few books.

Abraham’s Boys - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A step up from the last two. Such a fascinating twist on the Dracula/Van Helsing story. I always love a good “vampire” tale. Very disturbing too.

You Will Hear the Locust Sing - ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pretty gnarly body horror. A story akin to classics like The Fly and The Thing. This story is told in gross detail. I would have enjoyed it more if it maybe ended a bit differently. I see what Mr. Hill was going for—an outcast turned monster—but there was really nothing to connect to here.

This is brutal stuff.

Pop Art - ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

“I hope if there is another world, we will not be judged too harshly for the things we did wrong here—that we will at least be forgiven for the mistakes we made out of love.” A surprisingly heartfelt story. Kinda felt out of left field but I enjoyed how much sincerity Mr. Hill was able to fit into this story. Interesting concept, good execution.

20th Century Ghosts - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An interesting second story. I think I find Joe Hill’s vast knowledge of pop culture and film more compelling than the actual story. Not that the story is bad. It’s actually quite eerie. I think I’d rate this one a little lower than the first.

Do my eyes deceive me? Did Goodreads finally update their rating system?

I’m excited for this one. It will be the 30th book by King that I’ve read. I have high expectations for it. The concept sounds absolutely insane. I just hope the execution is just as crazy.

Best New Horror - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Solid start for Joe Hill. The ending reminded me very much of Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Knowing how big of a horror student Mr. Hill is, I’m sure it was intentionally made to feel that way.

I don’t think I read a single page after my last update. I may have failed my little reading challenge but I don’t think I’m giving up on this one.

Tried go get a good start but Sir Thom Yorke beckons me forth

This is probably where I’ll be stopping for the night. I didn’t get as far as I would’ve liked. I shall continue tomorrow.

Hundred pages down! The descriptive nature of this book is just so absorbing and captivating.
