Sad to be almost done, happy there’s one more book in the trilogy.

Just wanna say, book 12 is absolutely bonkers and I loved every second of it

Gonna be honest: it’s 9am and all this talk of roast beef and skewered meat and whatever whatever is making me really hungry.

Anyway, probably half way through the book by now and I’m absolutely loving it. I’ve been enthralled the entire time.

Ajax was mentioned not too long ago. It was cool seeing his name after reading Sophocles’ play.

I was not expecting an ending like that to chapter one. Damn.

Odysseus’ time with Kalypso is easily the most terrifying aspect of this entire tale. Not his beef with Poseidon or the anecdotes about the Trojan War. Especially the part when Odysseus has to cover Diomedes’ mouth to keep him from blowing their cover.
Kalypso is cold and manipulative. Keeping this kingly man against his will and making him internally suffer is honestly quite disturbing. “My life is pain.”

I found the audiobook—correct translation—on Spotify and did some immersive reading for this chapter. Also, randomly started annotating, which I haven’t done in forever.
Anyway, the gods have such a major influence in this world: Poseidon striking down a promontory to take down a sinner; Athena leading Telemakhos and visiting Penelope in her dreams. Athena, I feel, has more influence over man than Zeus. Maybe?
