I will finish this book before the new year! 😅

“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” - Jeremiah 29:7

Lamentations ✅

“Not in every case of calamity is sin directly the cause. Yet always searching of soul and confession of sin must provide its healing balm. They must affirm that God in the wisdom of justice and his grace has ordered it. They must triumphantly affirm by their faith that they hope nonetheless. In this way of godly weeping, they will learn that godly sorrow works salvation.”

Ecclesiastes ✅

So far the best of the sections in this book.

“When [Ecclesiastes] speaks repeatedly of enjoying God’s blessings of food and drink, of work and wife, he refers to no mundane matters. He echoes the enjoyment of the blessings of paradise. He takes his readers back to humanity’s original condition at creation and to the creational ordinances of labor and marriage.”

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend

Job ✅

“Affliction… is not a token of God‘s displeasure, but one of the measures of his grace. Is not sent in wrath, but with a kind of merciful design. It is one of the ways in which God speaks to men to draw them away from sin and to promote their highest welfare”

Proverbs ✅
“Wisdom cries allowed in the public Square… Enforcing the truth, that God‘s wisdom is not like the secrets of the mysterious religion available only to the initiated instead, God openly declares the treasures of his divine wisdom for all who will hear.”

Dnf - story was interesting. Needed to give the book back so didn’t finish for that reason. It does get a bit repetitive.
