Enjoying this book immensely, and it’s not my usual genre. The best part, for me, is the gradual unveiling of the motives of the two principal protagonists in deeper layers—more of a Russian nesting doll than an onion. The author expertly reveals the secrets they keep from each other and puts them in situations that seem improbable but are actually very plausible.

Revisiting Rubyfruit Jungle after 33 years is a joy, especially now that I can read it with my own daughter. Molly Bolt is still my favorite female character in American literature.

National Novel Writing Month begins in two days and I've not yet begun to question my sanity.

Finally picked up a copy of Smith's National Book Award winning memoir at a small independent bookshop in Guerneville, California on the way home from the coast today and I plan to hunker down with it later this evening after the circus and as soon as my daughter drifts off to sleep.
