The reminder that cops get attached to their own ideas about how to solve cases and then personalize it so that any deviation from their interpretation of events is a personal attack against them is one that rings so, so true. The retired cop WANTS it to be a specific person and genuinely is invested in keeping any investigation away from anyone else because it would be an attack on his investigative skills. Candyass

The victims of the central double murder that the entire book is based around were lesbians and it’s interesting to see how homophobia affects the investigation.

The true-crime backdrop to this thriller is incredibly enthralling and sucks you in like crazy. The mystery is engaging and the characters are well drawn.

I’m sorry, is the author unaware that families get a lot of money when a police officer dies in the line of duty? How is Red so poor if her mom died in the line? Where are her death benefits?

I assume there’s a goddamn reason the main character isn’t holding thoughts very clearly. It had better be a head injury because I do NOT enjoy the jerky way this is being narrated.
