Quite different from his previous two novels but there's still an undercurrent of warped sexual desire that's the driving force of the novel and has caused the event the story is going to jump off from

All build up so far with everyone getting out to the cabin while the cannibals watch on. I'd assume it'll go off the rails in a bit.

"Mefisto in Onyx" is a great story and the named "Lost Souls" is probably the best so far. The inclusion of a content warning before the story was disappointing though as anyone who'd think a man who marched in Selma with MLK is racist is as he would put it "full of horse pucky".

I continue to snail through this when my mind permits me to. "Pretty Maggie Moneyeyes" remains a classic story and "Jeffty Is Five" was moving and it's clear why it won the Hugo and Nebula awards hack in the day. "Shatterday" was a great play on the classic idea of what you'd do if you met yourself and how you might not even like yourself if you did.

Snailing through this as life is in the way from enjoying reading atm. Phenomenonal so far though with " "Repent, Harlequin" Said The Ticktockman ", "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" and "The Whimper of Whipped Dogs" being the best of the first five stories. Deathbird was interesting but felt like more of a fun experiment for Ellison rather than an enjoyable reading experience.

The TOTP and Jim'll Fix It years. The pattern of Savile's offending and how it coincided with his charity work becomes more clear in this section but also highlighted is his move into higher echelons of power and how he wielded that power to offend in different ways.

Iain
Iain is on page 201 of 614 of In Plain Sight: The Life and Lies of Jimmy Savile
Moving back and forth between interviews with Savile prior to his death, the period after his death when his true nature was revealed to the public and a chronological account of how he became the character the British public would idolise and later deplore. Very well written and its coverage of the abuse is restrained in a manner which informs without being exploitative.

Chipping away at this. Ghattas' writing is great. I knew nothing about much of what she writes about so this has been very educational. The first section essentially set up what brought about the Iranian revolution in 1979 and the attack on Mecca in 1979 and the reaction by the Saudis. Both of these events had wide spanning consequences across the region which I'd assume the next section will cover in depth.

Smelly finally kicks dope, the band are on the up and up after the release of "White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean" but issues remain. Dangers of the road persist and major labels circle like vultures but the band remain strong and defiantly deal with each in turn while remaining true to themselves.

Steve was a don, Dave was a total mess and its no wonder El Hefe took the spot and kept it since 1991. This is genuinely some of the best music biography I've ever read.

Mike's invisible magnet mole people really did steer him and the band at large from some nearly fatal situations. Some brutal stories they hadn't told each other are here for all to see in this book. I can't imagine how they felt reading them. Even more shocked than I am I'd imagine.

Screw it, going to restart this. Was enjoying it while on the night shift last weekend but then things got busy and I couldn't read it, then was too tired all week to read and then I was back in work. Bowles is surgically accurate in the mood and ambience he evokes, really singular writing style and I want to give him the next few days of my full attention.

Kiedis lead such a shambolic existence it's surprising he wasn't dead by 20. Still it's his effortless and somewhat careless nature that created situations which facilitated his eventual artistic development.

Flew through the first 89 pages a while back but I might as well be restarting this with the long gap between readings. Great so far between her brushes with death in childhood, her family, the Chinese moving in and changing her community, moving away for college and her marriage.

So damn good. Krieger dismantles some myths about The Doors but the truth is so much more satisfying. Funny, inspiring, sad, a bit of everything really as life is.

Triangulation: Clinton's deft ability to promise to the left and deliver to the right thus keeping both sides in check.
Chameleon in Black and White: Clinton pretending to care for black people while not really accomplishing anything for them. All PR spin, nothing has changed there in subsequent decades.

Final part. Determined to finish this once and for all. Way better in this back half then the initial half of setting out on the journey. I have no passion for this book though and I trudge through only to finish it, a shame after how much I enjoyed Klara and The Sun.

"Notes on the Writing of Horror: A Story": In this short story a horror author is struggling to actualize a plot he has come up with. He tells us of different possible styles he could write it in but then the autobiographical nature of the story is revealed in a shocking way. Probably one of the best short stories I've ever read.
