Love this so much, the story is wonderful and the narrator's voice is so lovely and relaxing, but why oh why does it have to be so hard to follow a conversation in a foreign language! I'm sailing along immersed in the story and then they start talking to each other and its like, oh, I guess we no longer pronounce words clearly anymore, huh?

Anyone have any recs for a cozy fall lesbian (or nb or trans) romance novel? Somehow I’m having trouble finding anything that looks good! I’m open to horror elements, ghost stories, or vampires if very well executed, but generally not really interested in romantasy or monsters. Really what I have in mind is just regular people and cozy fall vibes!

This is so much more beautiful and absorbing than I expected, somehow! Seeing Christianity treated so sincerely as myth also really changes how I think about other mythologies and their relationship to religious faith. Milton is obviously such a sincere Christian. Yet he also seems to acknowledge that he is using earthly terms to describe something fundamentally incomprehensible by a series of elaborate analogies...

This is way too good to stop reading entirely... but man I did not judge my mood correctly when I decided to start this in February of the year that..... well fill in the blank.

This is almost unbearably good. I'm slowing down, but only because I want to relish the experience... and get a little closer to the experience of reading them in the newspaper!

I think that sometimes, in order to make certain kinds of emotional sense, or intuitive sense, you need a story that doesn't make narrative sense, logical sense. This is something that David Lynch has said, though not in those exact words. And I think it is why Malina manages to make so much sense, even though it makes absolutely no sense.

I've been almost to the end of this for about a year and a half now... The problem is that the first two stories were amazing and queer, and the third story is... less amazing and less queer...

I know these issues have already been thoroughly complained of, but it is absolutely infuriating that I have to manual check the "notify me of comments" button if I comment on a review and want a notification that someone replied, and it is even more infuriating that that check box is not even there on the book page itself. If I left a comment on your review, you replied, and I ignored you, sorry!

This seems to be getting sillier and sillier as it goes on, but it remains delightful, on the whole. It's funny to imagine a book this, well, dumb, being thought of as an imposing "classic"! But of course it's wise, too, and Dickens sure does have a way with words (who'da thought it!?)

Things were starting to get a little tiresome a few chapters ago, but now I'm delighted again! Actors, what a profession!
