Liz is starting Magpie Murders (Susan Ryeland, #1)
Detective Locke is pretty great and is saying everything I am thinking. Thank god.

So far the original mystery was fairly good. A solid 4. Not out of control amazing but good. But then they had to come back to today. And nothing pisses me off more than a white woman at an accident saying “everyone is wrong, this is a murder!” And then investigating like a fucking busybody with no evidence and no tact. And then the author twisting things to give her a crime. This book is swiftly becoming a 2.

Well. Nothing has convinced me that I’m straight more than reading about a passionate scene between two women and being entirely unmoved and even feeling something slightly like aversion. I imagine this is how Ace people must feel reading about sex stuff.

I am 10% of the way in and I am struggling hard to want to continue. I think I really don’t have enough sapphic bones in my body to get excited about a romance novel about a lesbian romance where the rest of the writing isn’t extraordinary. It’s fine, but the character development is clearly investing in the two in the romance and I…don’t want to read about it.

Could come back to this but it wasn’t promising then and isn’t now.

I have never struggled to even WANT to start a 3rd book in a series before. I guess that’s how bad I thought the first two were, despite being well written. Maybe I should go back and rate them lower. I have never not finished a series after reading the first two but I might just start now

This is not going well. A light touch does not excuse a light story. And clever words are only clever if they make SENSE.

Really solid series. It held its own all the way throughout and the plot was clearly paced and set from the beginning which I so appreciate. The author claims the story leaped fully fledged into her mind from the beginning, and I believe it.

It almost feel like it's over at 65%...I wonder what else could happen. But then I just realized his secret past hasn't had any consequences yet, so maybe that will (terrifyingly) develop further.

No, I don't care that this novel is filth. It is my kind of filth. I'll take your trash and I'll enjoy it.
