I just finished Orphan Train: A Novel. A very Good story, I knew next to nothing about the trains of orphans, approximately 200,000 from 1850s to 1930s, who were transported from the east coast to the Midwest. Some were adopted into loving families, others were nothing less than abused indentured servants. At the time 10,000 orphan children routinely lived on the streets on NY.
