Oh blimey, it’s taken me a while to get into this book, primarily because I’d been warned it was heavy. And heavy it is, but in an emotional way, it’s not a heavy read. I’m only 80 pages in and can already tell it’s going to be brilliant.

I’m feeling irked by how American it is. We don’t have creeks here in England. And the English use such stereotypical upper class phrases. It feels like a book in England written by an American. I was quite surprised to see the author is European. Such a shame as otherwise I’m enjoying the storyline and writing

God this book is incredible. So well written, such a great story, SO excited to find a new great author and can’t wait for her to write more. I have that rare thing of delaying myself reading so that the pleasure lasts longer. Haven’t read this good a book for years.

Honestly this is one of the most beautifully evocative books I’ve ever read. Every word of love, agony, joy and torture saturates your blood and rattles every nerve. You don’t read Mornings of Jenin, you live it.

So pleased I chose this book. The combination of good story, historical fact, page turnability, short chapters and characters you warm to make this a very easy and enjoyable read.

I may only be 19 pages in but I'm full of hope for this book. Russian history, love story, century-spanning saga, well-written. What's not to be optimistic about?
