This is so good!! She’s a talented writer and the pacing, creepiness and atmosphere is perfect

Really REALLY struggling to see what everyone likes about this book. Slow and repetitive. Trying to hang in there and finish it though.

So so SO good! I don’t want this one to end!

“Krista answers the door this time while I brace myself for whoever is on the other side. Who knows what this prospective tenant will be? A convicted murderer in chains? A cannibal? A fire-breathing dragon? At this point, nothing would surprise me.

My second Freida McFadden - so far this feels equivalent to junk food. The writing isn’t great.

This is slow… the writing is beautiful, but I’m starting to struggle to want to read it.

I like this better than Fantasticland so far, but the same thing irritates me about both books: some of the interviews are needlessly long with boring bits that should be taken out. I skipped almost all of interview #9.

It’s mostly been a SLOG until about the 30 percent mark! The story is FINALLY picking up! Almost a DNF.

22 percent in and I’m skipping a LOT of wordy, boring paragraphs

One of the main characters, Eve, is unbelievably and annoyingly naive about life. Also, I’m rolling my eyes endlessly at the caricatures the author uses of Christians. What happened to cause such animosity toward people of faith?

Lots of unnecessary digs at Christians. Very off-putting.

Ok so far. I’ve seen people mention in reviews that some authors seem full of themselves, and I never quite understood what that meant until now.

This is one of those books where the author’s writing style constantly makes me feel like I missed a sentence somewhere, because it doesn’t flow well and I am not quite sure what’s going on. Will give it a bit more time.

Started off with a bang, slower in the middle, but I’m muddling through when I’m not reading something else!

Every chapter from Meg’s perspective includes derision and venom for the character who is a Christian. She mocks her for praying, for wearing a cross necklace, for quoting Bible verses. Why the never-ending mocking of faith? It’s childish, distracting and does nothing for the story.

Enjoying the book until the unnecessary hate toward a character who is a Christian. Why is that considered ok? Not seeing how this adds to the story. Will add more thoughts when finished.
