92 pages in, or five stories, two of which I've read before (the one - Replacements - has stuck with me for nearly 30 years, although much to my consternation, I couldn't recall author or title), and I honestly don't want to put the book down. Four stories in and each one deeply unsettling.

A real pleasure to revisit the novella ‘Ripper’ and its wonderful protagonist, Kit Caswell. Next up ‘Better Angels.

Remarkably different and varied stories, but each has also been remarkably good. I’m enjoying myself.

Two stories done and both quite exceptional Edwardian-style ghost stories. The language and tone were spot on. Now, the assassin, Mr Dry, beckons... :-)

Thoroughly enjoyable and fascinating blend of fact and fancy, with excellent sense of time and place. There’s something about Edwin Dry, The Deptford Assassin, and the use of London almost as a character, that reminds me of Arthur Machen’s Three Imposters. That is rather a good thing.

Loved every second of it.

Action has shifted from Dublin to New York. Curious to see if we end up inside McSorley’s at some point. ;-)

Wiggins is in fine form. Tossed off the Titanic, caught in a brawl, thrown in jail and working for a Dublin crime boss all in the first fifty pages. Fun start, so it is. ;-)

Utterly compelling and I’m totally caught up in this plot.

This just keeps ripping along at a breakneck pace, but also starting to get a sense of what might be behind the Red Hands... a touch of Poe, perhaps. :-)

Great characters, fine dialogue, natural exploration of background and relationships in the first 100 pages. Very curious about about a fourth key character we’re only getting in flashbacks so far...

Lebbon ramps things up with ‘Castle of the Lost’, wherein Jack brings his wife and young son back to the ancestral home... a castle where his parents and sister, leaders of an orgiastic death cult, apparently perished years earlier. Really enjoyed this one and actually wish it could have been longer, or a standalone novel, but it packs a helluva punch in its ‘film length’ running time.
