A woman who writes a male character who finds it ”cute and funny” that a female jumps from scare when he hides around corners in order to get that reaction… needs to think again. Most of the women in the world aren’t privileged enough to find being watchful of men, and being snuck up on, funny…!!

I don’t even know what his name is, the narrator keeps changing it. Emil? Emile? Ameel? Ameal?!
Also: I hate this romance and the fact that he calls her Wildfire is just icky, to me.

I don’t know why I don’t enjoy this more but I am more repelled than amused.

I went from ”wow, what an interesting book, and it’s so well written! Yay for authors handling mental issues!” to ”Laura is such a wet blanket of a character - and her alcoholism, co-dependency, agoraphobia and being blatantly gaslighted is just… making me anxious and annoyed”. I’ll DNF this now because I have NO doubt how it’ll end, anyway and I don’t need more frustration and anxiousness, tyvm.

Okay, but how does she go from flinching if anyone even moves too quickly, to happily shaking hands and hugging?

Starting to feel… annoyingly cookie cutter, which is a strange thing to say about a book about an agoraphobic with a missing husband. It’s just too easy. And the burgeoning love story feels icky and too sugary.
