I can’t put this book down. It is that good!

I started this book yesterday and can't seem to put it down. How can one not be engaged in a story of two teens who are dealing with their own secrets (Maggie watched her father murder her mother and West is watching his father die from cancer.) and find a way to help each other heal?

We are delving into the topic of equity at the high school where I work. When I came across this book, I grabbed it. The author argues the importance of educating those in prison. She highlights key research on the critical role that a college education can have for prisoners as they adjust to life after parole. Her solution to lowering the recidivism rate? Make prison a place of education and rehabilitation.

These short chapters can be used as mentor texts when teaching writing skills. This author gives specific advice on ways to become a better writer.

Listening to the audiobook and I don't ever want to pause. It is that good!

Reading this as I prep for a book club with 2nd year teachers. It is filled with simple ideas on how science, math, music, etc teachers incorporate literacy in their classrooms.
