Lots of bizarre word choices ("she stood akimbo" "winnowed" being used twice in as many chapters halfway through the book and then never again, earthshakes instead of earthquakes, etc.) that take me out of the story. Pacing is odd and would have benefitted from some significant editing. But it's an interesting story and I like the characters, so I'll finish out the last 350 pages.
