Decided to read this as sort of a crash course in everything I've forgotten since high school.
It's actually pretty well written and keeps my attention. I don't know how much the info is actually sticking, because it's mostly dates and names that I don't care to remember.
Unfortunately, extremely euro-centric.

really have to read with a grain of salt. Very generalized and not very factual according to other books so I don't know if I'll continue reading. It gets some things right but other times it just puts a historical realism spin on bible stories assuming that the bible stories were true in some respect. Not sure if I will continue reading.

Had to skim read Bacon since I found it really really boring, but Spinoza was incredible. I am really excited to delve deeper into his philosophy. I'm having an issue with this book which is its obvious bias against metaphysics. I think the author tries to be unbiased but the opinions are clear when they surface.

What a fascinating book! It's really well written so far. The first chapter goes into the life of Plato and specifically his book of Laws about his ideal Utopia, which at times was beautiful but mostly crazy. So I was really appreciative of the criticism chapter that followed as I thought I might be left alone to critique his ideas.

Made slow progress but finally got the physical book so back at it now. Just about finished with the silent era. So much information. The contributors of this book are masters of obscurity. Especially liked the chapter on Japanese silent cinema and how they incorporated a lot of theatrical elements with their screenings. Imagine seeing a movie in a theatre that built props to go along with the images on screen!

now that I've actually got the physical book, I can justifiably continue.
