"...They see the situation getting progressively worse...until Jesus finally returns to obliterate this present sin-corrupted creation...This view keeps us from really truly obeying Jesus' command to be salt and light in the earth..." That's not Christian pessimism, it's nihilism. And no it doesn't. Light is all the more necessary in defiance of darkness. It does bring hope that to be salt and light won't be in vain.
