My first guess is that the husband is setting her up somehow; like he sent the guy to try to sleep with her. Guys with money like to test people and use their money to control people.

Tired of the “footman” subplot. Also, I’m annoyed by the MC confusion this deep into the novel! I’m ready for him to get more confident and make some progress. We’re supposed to be solving the murder and the “ don’t know who to trust” thing is annoying me.
